Mr Greg Malham, Spine Surgeon & BSc MBChB FRACS Neurosurgeon
Education & Training
Mr Greg Malham offers a comprehensive private practice in neurosurgery, specialising in spine surgery, based in Melbourne, Australia.
He is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Epworth (Richmond) Melbourne and Global Director of Research for the Society of Lateral Access Surgeons (SOLAS). He is an ex-Executive Member of the Spine Society Australasia, and also previously held a senior lecturer position at Monash University and co-founded The Alfred Spine Service.
He began his training in his hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand in 1982, graduating in 1989 from the University of Otago with MBChB (distinction) and prizes in both surgery and medicine. Moving to Melbourne in 1997, he continued advanced training in Neurosurgery, gaining his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2000.
His main interest during training years focused on brain tumours, in particular meningioma and skull based tumours. He continues to maintain an interest in spinal cord tumours.
Mr Malham underwent post-graduate training in the UK working at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow – a world-renowned neurosurgery unit. He gained advanced skills in brain tumour, trauma and complex spine neurosurgery.
On returning to Melbourne, he commenced public practice at The Alfred overseeing registrar training, undertaking research and providing complex trauma spine surgery as a member of the The Alfred Trauma Service. He also began part time private practice in 2001.
After ten years, Mr Malham moved on from The Alfred to concentrate on his private practice. He is one of the few spine surgeons in Australia who has undertaken further training in all advanced approaches to the spine and is able to offer patients the most up to date procedures in the world. He regularly travels to the US and Europe to undertake advanced workshops in spine surgery and is a leading lecturer in Australia, Japan, Canada and the USA.
Mr Malham is dedicated to his career, along with his specialised team at Epworth Richmond, Melbourne.
